What is Flight Phase Coaching?

Flight Phase offers custom coaching for endurance and mountain athletes to help you perform your best. We use foundational principles to plan your training progression based on your unique history and goals. Whether you are a runner preparing for a key event or a wildland firefighter aiming for a strong season, Flight Phase can help.

What kinds of athletes do you coach?

At Flight Phase every athlete is on a unique path and every journey is important to us. Our athletes include everyone from trail and ultra runners aiming to complete events from 5km to 250-miles, to future smokejumpers training to run the 1.5-mile test and complete the 110-pound pack test. Our athletes are goal-oriented with a strong work ethic, looking to improve performance through advanced accountability.

What does Flight Phase Coaching offer?

As a Flight Phase athlete, you will receive month-to-month online coaching with an experienced and certified running and strength and conditioning coach. Your plan includes a custom program developed specifically for your goals. Each week your workouts will be modified as needed to maximize gains and minimize risk of developing injuries. The volume, intensity and type of workouts will vary over the course of your program to optimize every day leading to your event. You will also receive ongoing feedback and monthly check-ins to ensure your questions are answered and your training is on track.

What makes Flight Phase different?

Flight Phase was born from the idea that every athlete is standing on mountains of untapped potential. The human body is incredibly adaptable and every athlete can improve their fitness and quality of life significantly with consistent training and progressive overload. Flight Phase believes in helping athletes develop realistic process goals, understand the physiology underlying the training, and improve confidence and performance along the way. During the coaching process, athletes learn not only how to run faster and get stronger, but also how to prevent injuries and optimize recovery to promote athletic longevity.

How does online coaching work?

Flight Phase utilizes Training Peaks coaching software to plan each workout, monitor training, and provide feedback each week. You will learn about your trends in training and will be kept up to date on your performance improvements through regular communication in the Training Peaks app, text messages, and phone conversations.

What kind of experience does my coach have?

Coach Kristina “kpat” Pattison, DPT, OCS, CSCS is a certified ultra running coach and strength and conditioning specialist. She has over a decade of experience coaching, racing ultras internationally, and working as a doctor of physical therapy and certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist. Kristina is also a former USFS wildland firefighter and smokejumper who works primarily with runners, wildland firefighters, and other mountain athletes.
